The history of Mastroberardino dates back to the 18th century and has always been in the hands of the various members of the family.
Reliable sources speak of a Berardino which was called “Mastro” – master –, which was the origins of the birthline in the 700s. Once settled at Atripalda, in the heart of the Irpinia, land of wine-making, the family inextricably linked its destiny to wine culture.
In 1878 the Knight of the Crown of Italy, Angiolo Mastroberardino, registered the Company into the Chamber of Commerce of Avellino. For this reason he has been identified as the official founder, despite the fact the company had already operated for numerous decades.
Today the top management of the winery includes family members of the tenth generation and the headquarters remain at the site of the ancient cellars at Atripalda. The estate includes 350 hectares of agricultural land of which 150 is owned and the rest is operated through long term formulas. The agricultural holdings are distributed in various areas of production with the aim of preserving the territorial identity and guaranteeing firstly the continuity and the development of endogenous wine-making. These efforts allowed to achieve an extraordinary result: the attribution to the territory of Irpinia of three DOCG (Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino, Taurasi).
The cellars, which house valued artistic works, present a surprising synthesis of tradition and innovation. These contain the most advanced technologies for the production of quality wine and at the same time maintain the character and style which recall long experience and ancient culture. The wines which are then produced are a luminous testament to this. |
